‘Christ is the morning star, who, when the night of this world is past, gives to His saints the promise of the light of life, and opens everlasting day’. This text, written by St Bede, is taken from his commentary on the Book of Revelation, some time about the year 710.

The morning star comes twice in Revelation: ‘I will give him the morning star’; and: ‘I Jesus have sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star’.

The texts refer to the end- time; but they can also illumine our daily living, as we seek to turn ever more fully towards that Light which is Christ. We sang in the Easter Vigil, in the dark, ‘Christ our Light’; ‘Thanks be to God’.

May God draw you ever more closely to that Light, to that Morning Star, which is Himself; and may God bless you.
