Today is also the Optional Memoria in the Archdiocese of Birmingham of St Richard of Chichester, born towards the end of the twelfth century in what is today Droitwich in Worcestershire.

The miracle associated with him is that of the dropped chalice. It is said that, tired and worn out, he dropped the chalice containing the Precious Blood. None was spilled.

You may like to pray his prayer: ‘Thanks be to Thee, my Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits Thou hast given me, for all the pains and insults Thou hast borne for me. O most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother, may I know Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, and follow Thee more nearly, day by day. Amen’. May God bless you this day.
