Here is part of today’s Old Testament reading, from the Book of Deuteronomy: ‘For this commandment which I command you this day is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up for us to heaven, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ But the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it’.
‘The Word is very near you …’ Christ the Word is near you, this very day, particularly as you take up the Sacred Scriptures. It is in this way that we become Christ-like, little by little, as we absorb the Gospel message, like water trickling on to hard rock. ‘Today, if you would hear His voice, harden not your hearts’. May we truly incline the ear of our hearts this day to hear His voice, to take it in and live it out. May God bless you.
