There is a story told about St John Vianney, who noticed an old farmer sitting in church, gazing quietly at the tabernacle. One day, the priest asked the farmer, ‘What are you doing?’ the old man replied: ‘I look at Him and He looks at me’.

The saint himself said: ‘My little children, your hearts are small, but prayer stretches them and makes them capable of loving God. Through prayer we receive a foretaste of heaven and something of paradise comes down upon us. … It is honey that flows into the soul and makes all things sweet’.

May our own journey of prayer have something of both the old farmer and of the saint, and may God bless you and be close to you this day.
