This great Pope is loved among Benedictines for giving us the only account we have of the life of our Holy Father, St Benedict. He also had a great devotion to Sacred Scripture, and wrote: ‘The Holy Bible is like a mirror before our mind’s eye. In it we see our inner face. From the Scriptures we can learn our spiritual deformities and beauties. And there too we discover the progress we are making and how far we are from perfection’.

In the image below, we can see St Gregory receiving inspiration from the Holy Spirit for his writing. May we follow his counsel, seeking better to know our ‘inner face’, and from there proceeding to the Face of the Beloved, Jesus.
