Today is also the Optional Memoria of St Hildegarde, Virgin. She was born in Germany in 1098, and entered the Benedictine Abbey of Disibodenberg at eight years of age, making her Profession there in 1115. She went on to found a monastery at Rupertsberg, near Bingen, about the year 1150, and was its abbess. She was known for her great liturgical gifts, which are appreciated to this day. She died on 17 September in the year 1179.
