There is this story about Padre Pio, today’s saint: ‘An Italian lawyer was driving coming back home from Bologna. In his car were his wife and their two children. At one point, he asked his son to take over the driving, as he was very tired. There was no answer as the son was asleep.  Some time later, the lawyer fell asleep too. When he awoke, he realised he was not far from eternity … He was terrified and cried out, “who was guiding the car? And what has happened?” but nobody could answer him. His son woke up and told him he had slept deeply. His wife and the younger child were incredulous and marvelled. They said he had driven differently from how he usually drove. They said, “At one point the car was going to crash into another car but at the last moment it swerved and avoided the crash. But his wife said: “you were immobile for a long time and you did not answer our questions.” The lawyer said, “I could not answer because I was asleep. I have slept for fifteen kilometres. I haven’t felt anything because I slept…but who was driving the car? Who has prevented the catastrophe?”  After a couple of months the mystery was solved. The lawyer went to St. Giovanni Rotondo. As soon as Padre Pio saw him, he said to him, “You slept, and the Guardian Angel drove your car.”’

There are many such stories, even after Padre Pio’s death. He remains active from heaven.

May he pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
