Here is today’s Gospel, from St Luke: ‘He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.” And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? It is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.”

In these two analogies, we may note that growth can be slow. The seed in the ground takes time to root and send up branches, and yeast in bread flour has to be left to rise. So it is with our soul – the Holy Spirit works ceaselessly within us, but we may not see the results very quickly. The kingdom is there, the light is slowly breaking forth, and our part is to persevere and, bit by bit, make the changes in our lifestyle that reflect our choice for God.

May God bless you as you live for Him this day.
