In 1949, excavations beneath St Peter’s Basilica revealed a tomb with an epigraph which read, ‘Petros eni’ – ‘Peter is within’. However, it was not until 2006 that, underneath the church of St Paul’s outside the Walls, a white marble sarcophagus was discovered with the inscription ‘Paulo Apostoli Mart’ – ‘Paul, Apostle and Martyr’.

As we commemorate these two great Founder saints, let us ask their intercession, that we may be truly founded upon the Rock, that is Christ, and become like Him, in His likeness. May God bless you this day.
