In the Archdiocese of Birmingham, today is the Feast of St Edmund Campion, Priest and Martyr. This Jesuit saint died for the Faith in 1581. He said: ‘The Gospel showed me that the first commandment is to love God with all one’s heart, and that we should enfold everything in love; everyone knows that the first effect of love is imitation’.

Here is the basis for the imitation of Jesus – we love Him, and so desire to become like Him. This is a work of grace in us. May we, like St Edmund, enfold everything in love, and may grace bring us to true Christlikeness. May God bless you this day.
