‘O Wisdom, which cometh out of the mouth of the Most High, and reachest from one end to another, mightily and sweetly ordering all things: Come and teach us the way of prudence’.

The way of prudence … the way of understanding … ‘prudentiae’ is the word used in the Latin text. ‘Prudence’ is perhaps a word we shy away from today. It means intelligence, discretion, practical judgement to see what is most suitable. It may be a contraction from the Latin ‘providentia’, foresight. It is sometimes translated as ‘understanding’.

All these texts are Old Testament prefigurations of Christ; and Christ is the ‘power of God, and the wisdom of God’. As we come to know Him more deeply, let us open ourselves to receive from Him this most precious gift of wisdom, and may God bless you this day.
