The icon shows three scenes: Jerusalem, where Saul had persecuted Christians, and Stephen, to whose death Saul had consented; Damascus, where he (now called Paul) is preaching the Gospel; and in between them, the light from heaven, with the Lord Jesus in the centre, speaking to him.

Not all conversions are so dramatic. What of our own? We may have had no light from heaven, but the Lord speaks unceasingly to our heart. It is for us to incline the ear of our heart, and listen, as the Rule of our Holy Father St Benedict exhorts us to do.

May God bless you abundantly this day, and may He open the door of your heart to Himself, to bring you joy and peace.
