This great theologian, St Thomas Aquinas, had a great devotion to the Holy Eucharist, and the liturgical texts for the Solemnity of Corpus Christi are attributed to him. Here is one of them: ‘O Sacred Banquet, in which Christ is received, the memory of his Passion is recalled, the soul is filled with grace, and the pledge of future glory is given us’.

He also said: ‘The Eucharist is the Sacrament of Love. It signifies Love, it produces love. The Eucharist is the consummation of the whole spiritual life’.

In honour of St Thomas, perhaps we may have an opportunity to visit the Blessed Sacrament in a church or chapel near us, or if we do not have that opportunity, let us spend some time in prayer and thanksgiving for the Holy Eucharist. May St Thomas pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
