Today marks the death of St David in the year 589. His feast has been regularly celebrated from very early times, gaining momentum with his canonisation by Pope Callixtus II in the twelfth century.
He was an important monastic founder, and it is believed that he founded about twelve monasteries. His final words to the monks gathered around him were: ‘Brothers be ye constant. The yoke which with single mind ye have taken, bear ye to the end; and whatsoever ye have seen with me and heard, keep and fulfil’.
Today, we pray for the Church in Wales, that the foundation laid by St David may flourish and prosper. May St David pray for us, and may God bless you.
