Today’s Old Testament reading is the story of Joseph, from Genesis, whose character and life story foreshadows Christ’s. Jacob’s beloved son prefigures the beloved Son of God the Father; both redeem their people through suffering. Joseph forgave his brothers for the harm they had inflicted upon him, and Christ on the cross prayed for forgiveness for those who had crucified Him.

As we journey through Lent, let the ‘new shoots’ of faith enrich our way. As Joseph the Patriarch endured much suffering with patience and trust, so may we, in all our own challenges, learn to trust and endure with love what God permits in our lives. May God bless you this day.
