Today’s Gospel is the story of Emmaus, and tells us how the Lord was made known to the disciples ‘in the breaking of bread’.

We have spoken before about the tendency of Our Lord to remain hidden, and so it is with this account of the Emmaus story, in St Luke’s Gospel. St Francisco Marto, one of the Fatima children, used to refer to Our Lord in the tabernacle as the ‘hidden Jesus’. He is often unrecognised in the events of our daily lives, and is always present in the Tabernacle, though concealed from our eyes.

Perhaps today, we may like to spend a few moments becoming aware of the times in our lives Our Lord has been present, though unrecognised. As you come to Mass today, may you indeed find Him revealed in the Eucharist, and partake of Him with joy. May God bless you.
