St Boniface, whose original name was Wynfrid, was born in England about the year 675. He was educated at the Benedictine monastery of what is today Exeter, and became a Benedictine monk. Feeling a call to missionary outreach, he brought the Gospel to Germany, where he known as the Apostle of that land. He died a martyr on this day in Frisia, a distinct territory now forming part of the Netherlands.

Today we pray for the Church in Germany, giving thanks for the life of Boniface, and may God bless you this day.
