St Irenaeus was a disciple of St Polycarp, who in turn was a disciple of St John the Evangelist – a noble lineage, indeed. He defended the faith intensively against the heresies of the time, and his writngs have come down to us.

He said: ‘The glory of God is a living man; and the life of man consists in beholding God’. This we do in the liturgy, in our personal prayer, and in our life of service to others who are in need. May God bless you in so doing, this day.
