Today is the feast of St James the ‘Greater’, so called because his call preceded the call of the other James. He and his brother John were the sons of Zebedee and he was one of the three apostles to accompany the Lord at the Transfiguration and in the Garden of Olives. He was martyred in the year AD 44, the first to share in his Master’s death.

May he pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
