In the Archdiocese of Birmingham, today is the Feast of St John Wall, Priest and Martyr. St John Wall hailed originally from Preston in Lancashire, and studied at Douai and in Rome. He joined the Franciscans and was known as Fr Joachim of St Anne. Sent to England to serve the Worcester Mission, he ministered until he was martyred in 1679.

It is said of him that he was possibly the most outstanding academic priest of his generation. His intellectual gifts, however, led him towards the Cross, and his integrity shone through. May he pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
