From our New Testament reading, from Colossians: ‘We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love which you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven’. Here, we have in one sentence faith, hope, and love.
Here is part of a hymn by Christopher Wordsworth, the nephew of the poet William Wordsworth: ‘Faith will vanish into sight; hope be emptied in delight; love in heaven will shine more bright; therefore give us love. Faith and hope and love we see / joining hand in hand agree; but the greatest of the three, and the best, is love’.
Today let us pray for these precious gifts, that they may be deepened in us, and be shown forth in our words and actions. May God bless you this day.
