Today is also the Optional Memoria of St Edward the Confessor, the last but one Anglo Saxon King of our country. His shrine rests in Westminster Abbey, which he had established.

In 2010, the late Pope Benedict XVI visited Westminster Abbey, and at the close of his address there he prayed these words: ‘May the Risen Lord strengthen our efforts to mend the ruptures of the past and to meet the challenges of the present with hope in the future which, in his providence, he holds out to us and to our world. Amen’.

May St Edward the Confessor pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
