St Ignatius of Antioch suffered martyrdom during the persecution of Christians by the Emperor Trajan. On his way to Rome in chains, he wrote letters to the Christian communities through whose territories he passed. He wrote: ‘Allow me to become food for the wild beasts, through whose means it will be granted me to reach God. I am the wheat of God, and am ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found the pure bread of Christ’.

In his life taken, blessed, broken and given, we find inspiration for our own journey. May St Ignatius pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
