Here is today’s New Testament reading from Romans, regarding Abraham: ‘No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. That is why his faith was “reckoned to him as righteousness.” But the words, “it was reckoned to him,” were written not for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be reckoned to us who believe in him that raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was put to death for our trespasses and raised for our justification’.

It is encouraging to read that Abraham ‘grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God’ – clearly a process as much as an event. It is said that faith is like a muscle, which grows stronger the more is it used, and which atrophies if it is left alone. He was ‘fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised’.

In our own challenges, however enormous they may be, we can place our hope in Christ, that He will indeed accomplish what He has promised. So let us trust Him today, and may God bless you.
