The full title of this magnificent basilica is ‘The Archbasilica of the Most Holy Saviour, St John the Baptist, and St John the Evangelist’. It is the Cathedral Church of the city of Rome and therefore is the Mother Church of all Catholic churches, and the seat of the Pope, the Bishop of Rome.

One of the Mass readings is from Ezekiel, and here is part of it: ‘Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east); and the water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar. Then he brought me out by way of the north gate, and led me round on the outside to the outer gate, that faces toward the east; and the water was coming out on the south side’.

May we find the true ‘living water’ in Christ’s Church, however damaged and broken she may be; and may God bless you this day.
