In the Archdiocese of Birmingham, today is also the Feast of St Edmund Campion, Priest and Martyr. It is also the anniversary of the death of Archbishop Edward Ilsley, the first Archbishop of Birmingham, who died in 1926. His episcopal motto was ‘Justus et Tenax Propositi’ – ‘Just and Firm of Purpose’.

Perhaps this is a motto we can take to ourselves today, in all that we undertake. May Edmund Campion and Edward Ilsley pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
