‘O Emmanuel, our King and Lawgiver, the Desire of all nations, and their Salvation: come and save us, O Lord our God’.

As the well-known hymn expresses it: ‘O come, O come, Emmanuel! Redeem thy captive Israel; That into exile drear is gone, Far from the face of God’s dear Son. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel / Shall come to thee, O Israel’. The text refers back to Isaiah: ‘The Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel’.

As we begin to draw near to the great mystery of the Incarnation, let us prepare our hearts for the coming Christ, who will surely enter there as we open to Him. May God bless you this day.
