These two monastic Cappadocian Fathers were friends, being Bishops of Caesarea and Constantinople respectively. Their works have come down to us – St Basil is known for his writings on the Holy Spirit, and St Gregory for his Orations.

St Basil wrote: ‘Thus wilt thou pray without ceasing; if thou prayest not only in words, but unitest thyself to God through all the course of life and so thy life be made one ceaseless and uninterrupted prayer’.

May God bless you and keep you in this way, which is the way of Gospel, and be very close to you this day.
