St Benet Biscop, seventh century monastic founder, made five pilgrimages to Rome during the course of his life. He is credited with founding the monasteries of Wearmouth and Jarrow, for which he collected relics, books and art works. Amongst other things, he introduced stained glass windows to this country, and the building of stone churches.

His biography was written by St Bede, whom he had received into his monastery as a young boy. May both the great English saints pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
