Here is part of today’s New Testament reading, from the Letter of James: ‘Count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing’.

The word ‘steadfastness’ in Greek is also often translated as ‘patience’ – which is not an emotion, but a decision to remain firm and immovable; to be constant not only in extraordinary circumstances, but in bearing the ordinary load of the ordinary day.

May God grant us this gift, whatever our situation, and bless us this day.
