From our Old Testament reading, from Jeremiah: ‘The Lord made it known to me and I knew; then thou didst show me their evil deeds. But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter’.

The fourth century St Cyril of Jerusalem said, in one of his catechetical lectures: ‘Listen to Jeremiah and be convinced: “I was as a meek lamb that is carried to be a victim. Did I not know it?” … What sort of lamb? Let John the Baptist interpret, when he says, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world!”’

May the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace, as we pray in the Agnus Dei at Mass. May you be granted this peace, and God bless you this day.
