From our Old Testament reading, from Ezekiel: ‘They shall dwell in the land where your fathers dwelt that I gave to my servant Jacob; they and their children and their children’s children shall dwell there for ever; and David my servant shall be their prince for ever. I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will bless them and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. My dwelling place shall be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people’.

That ‘covenant of peace’ of which Ezekiel spoke prefigures the ‘covenant of peace’ which Our Lord made for us on the Cross, in His own Blood. ‘Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you’ as He said at the Last Supper. This is the true and everlasting covenant; the sanctuary? the Church, and also our own hearts, where He has established His Kingdom.

As He reigns in our hearts, may we worship Him there, and supremely in the sacraments of the Church; and may He bless you this day.
