From today’s Gospel, the account of the feeding of the five thousand, from St John: ‘And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten. When the people saw the sign which he had done, they said, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world!”’

Perhaps, at times, we feel like a fragment that is left over? This account should give us fresh heart, for we can know ourselves truly valued and gathered up. In Jesus, we are not lost. For He came, the Son of Man, to seek and to save that which was lost.

May you know this as true in your own life, and may God bless you this day.
