From today’s New Testament reading, from 2 Timothy: ‘I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which in Christ Jesus goes with eternal glory. The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we shall also live with him; if we endure, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful – for he cannot deny himself’.

These lines from the Holy Rule are apposite: ‘As we progress in our monastic life and in faith, our hearts shall be enlarged, and we shall run with unspeakable sweetness of love in the way of God’s commandments; so that, never abandoning his rule but persevering in his teaching in the monastery until death, we shall share by patience in the sufferings of Christ, that we may deserve to be partakers also of his kingdom’.

Our ‘dying with Him’ is infused with sweetness, for it is then that we are closest to him. May we run the path of our life this day with joy, and may God bless you.
