Today is the Memoria of St Gertrude, Virgin. A thirteenth century German Benedictine nun, she is known for her devotion to the Sacred Heart and to the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

Here is her prayer to the Sacred Heart, which you may like to pray: ‘O Sacred Heart of Jesus, Fountain of eternal life, Your Heart is a glowing Furnace of Love. You are my Refuge and my Sanctuary. O my adorable and loving Saviour, consume my heart with the burning fire with which Your Heart is enflamed. Pour down on my soul those graces which flow from Your love. Let my heart be united with Your Heart. Let my will be conformed to Your Will in all things. May Your Will be the Rule of all my desires and actions’.

May she pray for us, that our hearts will be truly united with His Sacred Heart, and may God bless you this day.
