From our Old Testament reading, from Isaiah: ‘In that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book, and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see. The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall exult in the Holy One of Israel’.

Our Lord spoke in the Beatitudes: ‘Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth’. Truly, Our Lady is the finest paradigm of meekness, for in her humility she was counted worthy to conceive and bear the Son of God. In this, she obtained ‘fresh joy in the Lord’, which issued in her song, which we know as the Magnificat. Linked to this is, of course, her obedience, and these two virtues go together.

Let us pray today for an increase of these two virtues in our own lives, and may God bless you through them.
