St Paul Miki and his companions were sixteenth century Japanese, and they were the first Martyrs of East Asia to be canonised. They shared in the death of their Lord Jesus Christ by being crucified and then stabbed with spears. Those carrying out their death were astonished at the joy they displayed on thus entering into life eternal.

In our own crosses, may we steadfastly unite our sufferings to those of Our Lord, knowing that He knows the pain of each one; and may God bless you this day.
