St Sharbel, or Charbel, was a Lebanese Maronite monk and hermit, who died on Christmas Eve in 1898. Canonised in 1977 by Pope Paul VI, he is remembered for his devotion to the Eucharist.
He prayed: ‘May from this moment henceforth and forever nothing be so sweet to me as Thee only. Thou only, indeed, art my meat and drink, my love and my joy, my sweetness and all my good’.
May he be alongside us as we are present at the holy Eucharist, and his prayers assist us; and may God bless you this day.
