From our New Testament reading, from Romans: ‘The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord’

St Bede the Venerable commented: ‘Eternal life is unjustly given for good merits. Rather, merit is first given freely by a benevolent Saviour’.

So, we do not earn eternal life; it is God’s good, free gift to us in Jesus Christ. Let us lay hold of this truth in prayer, today, and let it melt our heart, giving rise to actions that reflect it; and may God bless you this day.
