Here is part of our Gospel reading for today: ‘When the crowds were increasing, he [Jesus] began to say, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah became a sign to the men of Nineveh, so will the Son of man be to this generation …’ (Luke 11:29-30).
Jonah was swallowed up by the whale, and he was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights. Then the Lord spoke to the whale, and it vomited Jonah on to dry land. This event is seen as a type of Christ’s burial in the tomb, and His resurrection. It points clearly to Easter.
May God be close to you in your Lenten journey thus far, as we draw nearer to the Passion, and may He bless you this day.
