Fittingly, in the old calendar, today was instituted as the Feast of the Archangel Gabriel. The Archangel appears several times in sacred Scripture, notably to announce the birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah, and then to Our Lady, to announce the coming of Christ, which we celebrate tomorrow.

The name ‘Gabriel’ means ‘power of God’. May we ever be alert to the power of God in our own lives, and may God bless you this day.
