Born in 1696 in Naples, St Alphonsus initially trained as a lawyer, but sought ordination and became a priest. He went on to found the Redemptorist Order, the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer.
Today, the Redemptorists care for several shrines, holy places and retreat centres. They also look after the Byzantine icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, which is now in Rome in the Redemptorist Church of St Alphonsus Liguori. The image below shows the icon, which is in the public domain, and which includes angels bearing the instruments of the Passion as an integral part of the work, to display them to the infant Jesus.
May St Alphonsus pray for us, and Our Holy Mother of Perpetual help come to aid us in all our necessities, and may God bless you this day.
