This well-known icon depicting today’s feast is by Theophan the Greek and it is in the public domain. The scene is clear: Our Lord in glory, His garments white with light, with Moses and Elijah on either side, and the three disciples, Peter, James and John, in varying postures at the base of the icon. The eye is drawn upward towards the figure of Christ, and in our hearts we can hear God’s voice coming from the cloud: ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’ (Matthew 17:5)
Today, let us take time to interiorise the mystery of the Transfiguration, to ,as it were, dwell upon the mountain, gazing upon the Lord; and may this bring great blessing upon you and upon those whom you love.
