From our New Testament reading, from Philippians: ‘For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain’. (Philippians 1:20)

St Paul, writing to the Philippians, was not to know that both parts of his proclamation would be fulfilled: he lived for Christ, and he gained a martyr’s death. We are not all called to live out both these themes in our own daily lives, but increasingly more Chriatians are being called to suffer for their faith.
