St Jerome was born in about the year 347, in what is now Dalmatia. He is particularly known today for his translation of the Bible into Latin, which we know as the Vulgate.  He died at Bethlehem in about the year 419 or 420. Fittingly, this biblical scholar said, ‘Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.’ (From St. Jerome’s Prologue to the Book of Isaiah)
