Today’s Old Testament reading gives us the covenant between God and Moses and the people of Israel: ‘And Moses took the blood and threw it upon the people, and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”’

This covenant is definitively renewed and made perfect, complete, in the New Covenant made by our Lord at the Last Supper – the words of institution are a deliberate echo.

As we receive Holy Communion today, let us consciously enter into that covenant, that binding relationship which sets us free, and may God bless you in and through it.
